[For me, if the 13 songs on this CD were to represent Jesus and the 12 apostles, this would be the J-man himself. I mean that just to give special props to this song, and others have noted its uniqueness as well. Its simple, childlike quality is both fitting for the theme, and also gets to the heart of the ultimately very simple message of the Course: That we are no different than God, and that as God is Love, so must we be, and this has never changed and never could change. So all that we must do is to rest in that faith and learn whatever lessons we need to along the way – as much as we are in the way – and learn, little by little, to accept the greatest gift of all, that of “Presence.” And this comes through the gift that was “fore given” – forgiveness, what the Course tells us is the key to our release from a hell of our own making.
Want to also mention that the “you are forgiven” is of much more recent vintage than the rest of the song. I had been playing around with the end of the The Who’s “A Quick One” and then realized that it could really fit well with this song. In the end, I liked it so much that I decided it would have to be on the recorded version. Did I ask or get anyone’s permission? I, George Washington, cannot tell a lie (well, I can, and have ; ), I verily did not. I would love if Pete Townshend were to hear this song and bring a lawsuit or cease and desist order for stealing his idea. And maybe stealing other of his ideas, too, for all I know, he was such a big influence and I stand small on his tall shoulders. Baba Z (Bob Dylan), too. Hey, if this CD were to ever sell, I will gladly give them both a Rock Royalty check!
Ps. The only actual words from the Course itself here, besides the reading at the outset, are the words that begin “Into Christ’s Presence will we enter now…” I especially wanted to have this passage on the CD because it was apparently one of Helen’s favorites (Helen Schucman was the scribe of the Course).
lyrics
CHORDS: C F G
“The sign of Christmas is a star, a light in darkness. See it not outside yourself, but shining in the Heaven within, and accept it as the sign the time of Christ has come…
This Christmas, give the Holy Spirit EVERYTHING that would hurt you. LET yourself be healed completely that you may join with Him in healing, and let us celebrate our release together by releasing everyone with us. Leave nothing behind, for release is total, and when you have accepted it with me you will GIVE it with me. All pain and sacrifice and littleness will disappear in our relationship, which is as innocent as our relationship with our Father, and as powerful. Pain will be brought to us and disappear in our presence, and without pain there can BE no sacrifice. And without sacrifice there love MUST be.” (ACIM Text 15.11)
The Sun Has Risen
Oh in my Heart
& I shall listen
to what He shall impart
So pure and innocent
mmm as a little lamb
My Christmas Present
To Know that Love I Am (repeat)
***
Now the Son also rises
In every sing-all Person
& the surprise is
we shine in Unison (repeat)
***
So Love thy neighbor
Oh ‘tis the Season
Become thy savior
In the light of Reason
We’ll learn our lessons
Guided by your star
Our Christmas Presence
To Know that Love we are (repeat)
***
Into Christ’s Presence
will we enter now
serenely unaware of everything
except His shining face
and perfect love
*
You Are Forgiven
(and there was nothing ever to forgive any way…
it was fore given.. and this I learned from the Sun/Son…)
*
The Son Has Risen
Oh in my Heart
And I shall listen
to what He doth impart
So pure & innocent (you)
Mmm as a little lamb
Our Christmas presence
To know that Love I Am
To know that Love I Am
I Am I Am I Am
