This song began as a love song (before I got into the Course), and yet even as I was writing it I understood that it was coming from a place within me beyond romantic love. My beloved at the time loved it, affirming for me what I already felt. And even as it sat incomplete for the longest time, I always knew that I would finish it (or it would finish itself), I just didn’t know when. And then, this past Christmas, it began to all come together with the addition of the chorus, “Come Home.” Little did I know that at this very time, a friend and pillar of the Maui community named “Home” had taken his life. This song is dedicated to him, in remembrance of the deepest longing within all of us to finally come home.
