You could say simply that the history of Pop music is turning songs about God into songs about love and romance. But it’s not that simple. There are many songs about God that are disguised as love songs. And of course, some songs can be heard on many different levels. I would hope that this one works on those different levels, because I don’t see a distinction between the love of God and the love of another human being. Nor does the Course, of course. Indeed, one of the Course’s fundamental messages is “together, or not at all,” meaning that we all return Home together, or else we’re still stuck in the illusion of separation. While it is a fact that many songs have used this chord progression (such as one of my favorites, “Dock of the Bay”), as well as the phrase “we are the ones we’ve been waiting for,” this song is saying something slightly different: it’s not we are the “ones” but we are the One we’ve been waiting for… The idea is that we are ultimately all one and waking up to that understanding, slowly slowly, ending the “detour into fear” that the Course says we mistakenly took in that primal moment of seeming separation. This song clearly does not use the words of the Course (except at the very end), and yet it is still very much inspired by the Course, despite it’s façade as a rock/pop song. May it be injoyed for just so long as it’s needed.

lyrics

CHORDS: Bflat D7 D# C

Baby you rock me to the core (coeur)
And now you’ve got me down on the floor
You are the one I’ve been waiting for
For so long

For so long now I’ve been on the road
Hiding out in the cold
A lonely traveler gone solo
for so long

For So long, I’ve been gone
For so long, we’ll be rocking on
For so long

(rock on)

Maybe now we can end this detour
And you&I will go on tour
We are the One we’ve been waiting for
For so long

For so long
We’ve been gone
For so long
We’ll be rockin’ on
For so long

We Are the One We’ve Been Waiting For

You are the One I’ve been waiting for/
I am the One you’ve been waiting for/
You are the One you’ve been waiting for/
We are the One we’ve been waiting for/
for so long…

You are the One I’ve been/I am the One you’ve been
You are the One you’ve been/We are the One we’ve been… waiting for, for so long…

“Oneness is simply the idea God is.
And in His Being, He encompasses all things.
No mind holds anything but Him.
We say "God is," and then we cease to speak,
for in that knowledge words are meaningless.
There are no lips to speak them,
and no part of mind sufficiently distinct
to feel that it is now aware of something not itself.
It has united with its Source.
And like its Source Itself,
it merely is.”
